Book Launch

Jan 25th 2011

The Federal Trust held an event celebrating the launch of the recently published The EU Fiscal Crisis – forcing Eurozone political union in 2011?, written by Federal Trust Council member Graham Bishop – a leading independent financial analyst who has advised the UK and European Parliaments.

Graham Bishop outlined the theses of his new book, a commentary was provided by Sir Stephen Wall, former UK Representative to the EU and European adviser to the Prime Minister and the whole event was chaired by Sir Brian Unwin, former President of the European Investment Bank

In this book Graham Bishop explains some of the interactions of financial markets, economics and politics that are forcing the creation of a genuine Eurozone political union. He argues that if the eurozone does indeed do “whatever is required to ensure the stability of the euro area as a whole”, as affirmed collectively by eurozone leaders in a pre-Christmas statement, then it will survive. The Eurozone will have emerged from the financial crisis as a political federation – loose in some respects, but with tightly centralised economic governance at its heart. The proven commitment to fiscal probity may even make it attractive relative to alternative investments around the world.
